The Spanish Association of Exporters and Industrialists of Table Olives (Asemesa) today unanimously elected as president José Ignacio Montaño Díaz, general director of Agro Sevilla Olives, SCA, in extraordinary general assembly of Elections, convened after the resignation of Carlos Camacho .
In his first words, the new president has thanked all past and present members of Asemesa for «having made it possible for the Association to be the national and international benchmark for the Spanish table olive industry, having special recognition for all presidents above and, of course, for Carlos Camacho, for the courage shown by accepting the renewal of the position in such difficult and complicated times for the Association due to the measures taken by the US against the black olive of Spain, “reports the Association in a statement.
Montaño said that “he considers it necessary to start a new stage of the organization by addressing important transformations for its modernization, among which digitalization must be fundamental”
The new president also said that “he takes the witness of the defense of the industry and the sector of table olives before the protectionist measures adopted by the US, adding that it is the best example of the role that the Association has been playing throughout its history, defending and representing the interests of the entire Spanish table olive industry, both exporting and non-exporting »..
José Ignacio Montaño also indicated that «the association must work to maintain the position of world leadership in Spain and, of course, also with the other organizations that constitute the sector to achieve maximum profitability of all varieties while capacity of competing abroad »..
Asemesa, whose general secretary is Ignacio de Mora, has been representing for more than 90 years the industry dedicated to the production, marketing and export of table olives in Spain. The main objective of the Association is «to defend the interests of the table olive industry as well as to intercede before national and international administrations and agricultural organizations» ..
Currently, it also plays an important role within the Interprofessional of the sector, Interaceituna, being one of the promoters of its creation in 2007.
